Copper Thefts
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Another alleged copper thief is behind bars tonight after trying to transport 500 pounds of stolen copper from an electrical company.
Officials say they were called to the scene of a roll-over accident last Thursday, and when they arrived they found 500 pounds of copper wire in the truck involved.
An investigation led official to John R. Howell Agriculture and Electrical Company where the wire had been stolen earlier in the morning.
And while officials say these types of crimes are becoming more common, it isn't just the thieves left paying...
Joel Maatman of the Ingham County Sheriff's Department said, "Everybody pays for a crime, it doesn't matter who you are, whether it be the business that has to replace the stolen property, the insurance company that covers the loss, but ultimately every citizen pays something for a crime and it doesn't change when some-body's stealing copper wire."
Officials say they're still searching for other suspects involved in the crime.
