Storms Pound Southeast Michigan
Comments 0 | Recommend 0DETROIT (AP) - A round of fast and fierce storms has pounded southeast Michigan, damaging property, downing power lines and leaving thousands of homes and businesses without power.
DTE Energy Co. spokeswoman Lorrie Kessler said Friday morning crews have been working since Thursday evening to restore power to all but about 10,000 of the 50,000 affected customers. She expects the rest to be restored Friday.
No serious injuries were reported, but the hard rain and heavy wind uprooted and damaged trees across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The canopy roof over pumps at one Detroit gas station collapsed, crushing two cars.
Kessler says crews now have their eyes on potentially violent storms forecast Friday and Saturday for the region.
